Dukes Meadows hosts first Breast Cancer Charity golf tournament

On Friday 24th October 2014 Dukes Meadows hosted a charity golf tournament, to raise money for the Breast Cancer Campaign and give our support to #wearitpink.

The tournament involved 26 players (all women) with the youngest being just 12 years-old. Before the tournament commenced there was a 30 minute pitching clinic with our golf pro Lucinda Davies, which included some testing warm up exercises.

Thankfully, despite the weather being miserable, we managed to avoid any rain before the 10:45am shot gunned start. The format of the tournament was a Three-ball Stableford with the winner bagging themselves a bottle of pink champagne. Fittingly all players dressed in the right colour for the occasion.

Despite the difficult conditions there was some really impressive golf, especially when it came to pitching shots suggesting the clinic was a success. On the 9th hole Lucinda was holding a beat the pro contest where she challenged the players to see who could hit a shot nearest to the green – the winners would receive a ball cleaning sleeve and the losers would have to donate £5.

After a challenging session of golf the ladies gathered in our function room and enjoyed some tea and cake whilst the scores were being round up.

Before the winner was announced there was a raffle and an auction in which we managed to raise an impressive £300.

It finally came round to finding out who would be crowned champion and despite some good performances the clear winner was Lesley Young who scored an excellent 20 points – congratulations on an eye-catching round of golf.

It ended what was a fantastic day at Dukes Meadows and one which we will undoubtedly repeat for future years to come. We managed to raise £560 to what I’m sure you will all agree is a wonderful cause and in the mean time put on an entertaining tournament.

Lucinda Davies, who was running her first big Dukes Meadows event said: “I’d like to thank everyone for turning up at quite short notice.  It was a fantastic, fun, PINK, bright and very well supported day for a great cause. The ladies looked fabulous and we are already looking forward to next year’s ‘WearitPink’ golf day.”
